FishingFix is a small, independent website built around one idea: give anglers a handful of genuinely useful calculators instead of another wall of generic fishing advice. It’s supported by on-page advertising, not by any tackle brand, guide service, or fisheries agency — nobody is paying to be recommended here.

What the tools actually do, and where the numbers come from

The Fish Weight Calculator estimates a fish’s weight in pounds and kilograms from its length, refined with a girth measurement, using the length-girth weight formulas anglers have relied on for generations. It’s a field estimate, not a certified scale reading.

The Tide Predictorprojects the next high and low tide, and whether the water is currently rising or falling, from a single known recent high tide, using the roughly 12-hour-25-minute semidiurnal tidal cycle that governs most coastlines. Local geography, wind, and storm surge can shift real tide times, which is why it’s a planning aid rather than a replacement for official tide tables.

The Weather Fishing Planner turns barometric pressure, wind, sky cover, water temperature, and moon phase into a single 0–100 score and an Excellent-to-Poor rating, based on the conditions anglers have long associated with an active or slow bite. It’s a way to compare mornings against each other, not a guarantee of fish.

The Fishing Line Calculator suggests a pound-test range for your target species and estimates how many yards of that line a given reel spool will hold, so you can match line strength and capacity before you re-spool. The Catch Log Tracker is simpler still — it just does the arithmetic on the fish you enter: total catch, total and average weight, your biggest fish, and a breakdown by species.

The Bait Selectormatches your target species and water (fresh or salt) to curated live-bait and lure suggestions with a presentation tip, drawn from common angling practice rather than any single guide’s opinion. The Fishing Knot Guidelets you filter knots by what you actually need — tying on a hook, joining two lines, or forming a loop — and lists each one’s best use, strength, and difficulty. And the Fishing License Checker gives informational license basics for select US states as a starting point; it is not a substitute for checking the current rules with the official state wildlife or fisheries agency.

What this site is, and isn’t

FishingFix is an independent publisher, not a fisheries authority, a tackle manufacturer, or any state or federal agency, and it isn’t affiliated with any of them. Every tool result is an estimate built from general formulas and typical conditions — treat them as a starting point for a trip, not as professional or official advice. For anything that affects legality or safety, like license requirements, bag limits, or navigation rules, verify directly with your state or local authority before you head out. Beyond the tools, the site also hosts a Game Fish Species museum built from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons entries, and a blog and learn section with further reading on techniques, gear, and species.
