California’s trout fishing season is on its way, thanks to the warm winter. A perfect blend of adequate rainfall and ample snowpack has resulted in some of the best fishing conditions the state has seen in years. The warm winter weather allowed snow to settle and melt, replenishing the water levels and creating cooler water temperatures across many of the streams and creeks. The anticipation is high among the Mother Lode anglers, eager to get a taste of California’s legendary trout. For the record, the state is home to the largest trout fishery in the country, with an estimated 7.5 million trout stocked each year. This season promises to deliver plenty of opportunities for anglers to try their hand at catching some of these prized fish.

CDFW Reports Positive Outlook and Stocked Trout Abundance

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is feeling positive about the upcoming fishing season, citing the state’s above-average precipitation and snowpack. The snowpack levels are expected to provide cold, clear water conditions that are ideal for trout. As a result, the CDFW has reported nearly 800,000 trout to have been stocked across the state. The trout abundance is substantial, with many waterways in the Sierra foothills having received a significant number of fish.
