The History of L’Atelier, Histoire de Pêche
Normand Robitaille’s vision for L’Atelier, Histoire de Pêche was to create a unique museum experience that would showcase the history and culture of salmon fishing in the region. The museum’s name, which translates to The Workshop, History of Fishing, reflects its focus on the traditional fishing practices and techniques of the area.
The Museum’s Design
The museum’s design is inspired by the traditional salmon fishing camps of the region. The old wooden building has been converted into a cozy and intimate space that evokes the feeling of a traditional fishing camp.
The Aquarium’s Origins
The aquarium was created by Robitaille and his son Patrick, who are both avid fishermen and passionate about marine life. The idea for the aquarium came from their experiences fishing in the St. Lawrence River, where they would catch a variety of fish species. They realized that many of these species were struggling to survive due to pollution and habitat destruction.
