Earth Day on the Esplanade, scheduled for this Friday from 3-6 p.m., is an excellent opportunity to connect with nature and community. The event features a nature walk and scavenger hunt with the Park Rangers, an exploration of the NYC Parks Playmobile, and a chance to help clean the Kill Van Kull shoreline with the Natural Resource Protective Association. During the event, attendees can meet Frankie the Staten Island Ferry Hawk, enjoy a variety of crafts, games, and snacks, and take home some fun giveaways. The event is free and open to the public, making it an excellent way to spend an afternoon outdoors. For those who can’t make it to the Esplanade, Healthy Kids Day at the YMCA is an excellent alternative on Saturday from 10 a.m. This event offers a range of fun activities for families, including family games, fitness activities, crafts, giveaways, face painting, a bounce house, an escape room, an aquatics table, Zumba, and more. The event is free and open to the public, making it an excellent way to spend a Saturday morning with your loved ones. In addition to these events, the Three Amigas Helping Hands, in partnership with Soroptimist International of Staten Island, is hosting a free prom attire giveaway on Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. This event aims to provide every graduate with an opportunity to shine, regardless of their financial situation. The giveaway features a selection of gowns, suits, and shoes available at no cost to those in need. If you’re looking for something a bit more low-key, Sunday offers a unique opportunity to learn about freshwater fishing. Join the Urban Park Rangers for free lessons on Saturday from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Eton Place Parking Lot in Willowbrook Park. Learn how to use a fishing rod, the ethics of fishing, and the ecology of local waterways. Equipment is provided, and the event is open to ages 8 and up, with one pole per family. For those who prefer to spend their Sunday indoors, the St. George Theatre is hosting a special screening of Disney’s “Moana” as part of the “Better on the Big Screen” Movie Series. The event begins with a Sing-A-Long with Tina Kenny Jones, followed by a screening of the movie. Tickets are available for $15-$20, and attendees can grab them here.
